Cranston woman claims $2M PowerBall prize just before 49th wedding anniversary

A Cranston couple set to mark their 49th wedding anniversary has some added cause for celebration.

Saturday’s PowerBall drawing yielded a $2 million winning ticket sold to a city woman whose husband had suggested picking up lottery tickets while at the Stop & Shop at 1300 Ten Rod Road in North Kingstown. He purchased Numbers game tickets, and she decided to buy a PowerBall quick pick ticket.

The ticket matched five numbers but not the PowerBall number, good for a $1 million payout. The woman had added the PowerPlay feature for an extra dollar, however, which doubled the prize.

The couple is unsure how they will use the money, but the win comes just ahead of their wedding anniversary.
