Cumberland Farms grand opening to benefit Trudeau

For the next month, you could feel a little better about your daily coffee run thanks to a new partnership between Cumberland Farms and The Trudeau Center.

Since 2009, whenever Cumberland Farms opens a new or remolded location they also host a fundraiser benefiting a local non-profit agency. The company’s newest location in Apponaug, 3335 Post Road, is just up the street from the Trudeau Center.

Although the store has been open since Sept. 2, their grand opening and kickoff for their month-long fundraiser will be Thursday, Oct. 2.

Bryan Pierce, a marketing associate for Cumberland Farms, said that any time a new location is opening construction is inevitable and that can sometimes “be in the way” and an eyesore or disruption to traffic patterns.

“This is our way to give back to the community,” Pierce said. “After construction this is our way of doing good and starting off on the right foot in a new location.”

Through the next month, 10 cents from every dispensed beverage, which includes the Chill Zone slushies and coffee, will be donated to the Trudeau Center. Although Cumberland Farms guarantees a minimum of $1,000, Pierce said that in the past Cumberland Farms has been able to donate upwards of $3,000 to the charities they partner with by the end of the month.

Piece said, “I think that speaks to the popularity of our stores. We have found that Cumberland Farms has become part of the culture in Rhode Island, especially in Warwick.”

Even before the new location opened, Cumberland Farms was working with the Trudeau Center. Sara Masri, director of development for the Trudeau Center, said that in the spring, while construction was still underway, the center reached out and “immediately” they began discussing which store could be linked to the Trudeau Center.

“The team at Cumberland Farms has kept us in the loop throughout the process and are working hard to make sure that not only is this a fundraiser but a way to help get the word out about what we do in the community,” Masri said.

Pierce said he hopes the partnership between Cumberland Farms and the Trudeau Center continues after this fundraiser because their work in the community is “something you can get behind.”

All the funds donated by Cumberland Farms will go towards the range of services provided by the center for children and adults with developmental disabilities including educational, therapeutic, vocational, residential and recreational programs.

The grand opening and fundraiser kickoff will be at Cumberland Farms’ newest location, 3335 Post Road, on Thursday, Oct. 1 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. There will be complimentary food samples from Cumberland Farms’ new hot food menu including pizza, mac and cheese bites and more. All beverages from the Chill Zone and coffee bar will be free during that hour. There will also be free Cumberland Farms merchandise such as t-shirts Frisbees and sunglasses.
