Family and friends are invited to a brief ceremony this Saturday at 2 p.m. at Dorothy Mayor Park next to St. Barnabas Church in Apponaug for the interment of the ashes of the late Don D’Amato.
Mr. D’Amato was a close friend of Dorothy Mayor, who spearheaded the effort to convert what was a defunct Sunoco service station into the park. The park features the horse-watering fountain that was once a feature of the village.
Mr. D’Amato, who was 80 years old when he died June 15, was a Warwick history teacher who after retirement became a columnist for this newspaper and others. He authored a number of local history books and served as the city historian for 25 years.
The Rev. Dana Karen Reardon, pastor of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Warwick, will perform the service.
