(British gangster movie)

Jude Law stars as the title character of a bizarre movie about a violent, self-centered British safecracker with low self-esteem and lots of anger issues.

The movie opens with a prison scene that demonstrates this violent and self-centered trait. Dom is released from prison after serving 12 years and not snitching on his boss. He and Dickie, his only friend in the world (Richard E. Grant) pay a visit to his old boss, who is living a most luxurious life with a gorgeous woman. He puts on a scene, demanding to be compensated for his years of confinement.

They all party together and his old boss rewards him with enough money to live comfortably for the rest of his life. But then a horrible accident occurs, characters die, the girlfriend runs away with the money and poor Dom is left penniless.

He decides to reconnect with his estranged daughter and her biracial son. (His wife died while he was in prison). Things continue to go bad for Dom, but he gains little sympathy from the audience after we watch him cause grief for everyone else. I actually enjoyed his comeuppance.

Surprisingly, the writers give Dom Hemingway some hope for the future. Not everyone will like this brutal movie and brutal characters, but it does have that tongue-in-cheek British humor to make it quirky and often funny. See it if you dare.

Rated a big R, with profanity, extreme violence, sex, nudity and drugs.
