Dorothea Hawthorne, 90, formerly of Warwick, died peacefully at Kent Regency June 22, 2011. She was the wife of the late Stephen B. Hawthorne. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Charles L. Whitman and Florence (Berry) Whitman. Mrs. Hawthorne worked as a volunteer for the Warwick School Department for 30 years. She was a communicant of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, where she was a member of the church choir, a teacher and secretary of the Sunday school for 15 years. She leaves two sons, Robert S. Hawthorne of Warwick and Brian C. Hawthorne of West Greenwich. She was the loving grandmother of five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and grandmother of the late Lori Ann Hawthorne and Robert Hawthorne. Her funeral was held June 27 at 9 a.m. from Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Ave., Warwick, with a burial office in St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 3257 Post Road, Warwick. Burial followed in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown. Gifts in her memory to Beacon Hospice, 1 Catamore Blvd., East Providence, RI 02914 would be appreciated.
