Daniel “Danny” Edward Whipple died Monday, April 7, 2014, at Hilltop Village, in Kerrville, Texas.

He was born Nov. 17, 1932, in Providence, Rhode Island. He married Barbara Harding Whipple, Sept. 1, 1962. Danny was a proud father and “Pop-Pop.” He spent time cheering on his children and grandchildren during their many athletic, musical and school endeavors. During his career, he worked as a plasterer at Electric Boat and as an offset lithographer, retiring from World Color in Pawtucket.

Dan and Jack Kirkconnell (“Two Against Hunger”) walked from Seattle, Washington, to Providence, R.I., in 1987, to raise awareness of hunger and homelessness in America. Helping others was a passion of Dan’s, a calling he continued into retirement, volunteering at Christian Assistance Ministries in Kerrville.

Danny was an active member of St. David’s Episcopal Church in Cranston, R.I., for over 30 years, Trinity Church in Cranston, and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Kerrville, after retirement.

Danny is preceded in death by his brothers, Charlie, Billy and Bernie; and sisters, Marie and Florence.

Danny is survived by his daughters, Susan Jean Halvarson and husband, Craig, and Kimbery Ann O’Brien and husband, Sean; grandchildren, Axel William, Eric Daniel and Hope Elizabeth Halvarson, and Paige Danielle O’Brien; brother, Albert Whipple; sister-in-law, Anna Whipple; along with many great and great-great-grandnieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be at St. David’s on the Hill, 200 Meshanticut Valley Parkway, Cranston. at 11 a.m. on June 28th. A pot luck lunch will follow
