(Exciting, complex film noir)
If you like film noir (we do), you'll enjoy this exciting, if somewhat complex, murder mystery.
Colin Farrell stars as Victor, a somber, fanatic man who has dedicated his life to tracking down the killers of his wife and son. He meets Beatrice, a strange, mysterious woman (Noomi Rapace) who has been scarred in an auto accident and has dedicated her life to killing the man responsible. Terrence Howard plays the menacing mob leader whose gang Victor has infiltrated, waiting for the right time to make his move.
What seems like a straightforward tale of revenge gets very complicated as the audience is led down a twisting path filled with surprises and revelations.
The shaky relationship between Victor and Beatrice is quite interesting, as the two have much in common but remain distant from each other as they both seek to reach their goals.
"Dead Man Down" plays out like an old-fashioned dime store novel, keeping us guessing and literally trying to put all the pieces of the puzzle together.
Rated R with violence.
