Rhode Island Democratic Party Chair Joseph M. McNamara has invited all interested Democrats (or those who plan on voting as Democrats in the 2016 Presidential Preference Primaries,) to become part of a select group that will determine the fate of the next presidential primary and the future of the state’s Democratic Party.
“Today is the day you can play a role in the future of our Party, state and country,” said Representative McNamara. “And all it takes is an hour of your time, once a month, to make that difference, by becoming a member of one of our several Democratic caucuses,” he said.
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) requires all state Party officials to engage Democrats who are typically under-represented in elections: women, youth, people with disabilities, LGBTQ, African Americans, Native Americans, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, and Hispanics. Participation can occur in such ways as delegates, candidates and members of caucuses.
The role of the caucuses is to meet regularly, discuss the role and opportunities of constituency groups, identify potential candidates for local and state offices, and help the Party counsel and train candidates. The hour-long meetings will take place once a month, with opportunities for special field and media training.
Those interested in participating should call the state party office at 272-3372 and/or send an email to agooding@ridemocrats.org with contact information and the caucus s/he would like to take part in. For more information on the Delegate Selection Process visit www.ridemocrats.org.
