To the Editor:
Concerning your article in the Tuesday, April 22 Beacon: The School Committee wants to add $2 million to the budget. There is talk of closing another school and laying off 20 teachers in the near future, so why do they now want to hire three math coaches and pay them a salary and benefits of $300,000 to $400,000 a year? What I would like to know, since my taxes will be paying for this, is just what does a math coach do that they are worth this outrageous salary? Can I have an answer to that?

Editor’s Note: For clarification, the story entitled “Schools up ask for added $2 million” in the Tuesday, April 22 Beacon mentioned that $300,000 to $400,000 was added to the superintendent’s budget request by the School Committee in order to hire three math coaches at the secondary level. That is the total amount to cover salary and benefits for all three coaches.
