Doggy daycare raising $38K to relocate indoor park

Bow chika Wow Town, Rhode Island’s only indoor dog park, has been getting a lot of media attention lately since it may have to move its facilities due to a dispute with the landlord.

The owner of Bow chika Wow Town, Alisa Paykos-Theurer, has been doing interviews for newspapers, radio shows and television news outlets to get the word out about her new fundraiser.

The company offers doggy daycare services as well as boarding.

The current facility at 450 Pavilion Rd. needs repairs to meet city code, but the landlord is not making them nor is he allowing Bow chika Wow Town to make the repairs themselves.

Paykos-Theurer said, “We seem to be in the same boat. The landlord seems to be open to the possibility of doing repairs, but I still get the feeling he wants us out.”

Thus, she is looking to find new facilities and has been looking for new and bigger locations throughout the city. She has also started a Kickstarter online fundraiser.

Originally, Paykos-Theurer was looking to raise $30,000, but is now looking for $38,000 to account for the percentage Kickstarter takes from the fundraiser, which can be anywhere between 5 and 8 percent of all funds raised. The page went live this past Friday, and already almost $4,000 has been raised thanks to 41 donations. With the Kickstarter Paykos-Theurer has only 30 days to raise the funds and has 25 days left.

Paykos-Theurer said she is nervous but thinks they are on the right path to raising everything they need, but there is always a chance they may not.

“Already we have raised a decent amount. I think the holiday slowed us down but I can see the donations starting to pick up again,” she said. “If we don’t raise the money in time we’ve had a great thing the past two years, but there is a chance that Bow chika Wow Town will close its doors.”

The dog community has really come out to support the business, some of them providing testimonials to Bow chika Wow Town’s great service, some even participated in the short video for the fundraising page.

Paykos-Theurer said, “I am out of my comfort zone here. I am not used to being in the public eye so much, but everyone has been great, which has made it easier. I have customers asking how they can help or checking up on the status of everything. It’s been very reassuring.” She said that the dog community is in jeopardy of losing a much-needed and one-of-a-kind service.

The business is looking to stay in Warwick, and all of the raised funds would go to setting up and sustaining the new facilities. If Bow chika Wow Town is able to stay at their current building the funds would go to making the repairs needed to get the building up to code.

“The business side of me wants to stay,” Paykos-Theurer said, “but my heart says we need to move somewhere else.”
