Dorothy Jay, RN, 88, died February 17, 2014 at home with her family.

Born November 18, 1925 at Lying In Hospital to the late Horace and Regina (Theroux) Pratt of Rumford. She grew up in Rumford but lived for the last 58 years in Warwick. Dorothy was a graduate of the then Homeopathic Hospital (Roger Williams) and worked her career there and at the Institute of Mental Health in Cranston before becoming one of the first of three nurse practioners in the state of RI. She was an active member at the East Greenwich Yacht Club since 1975 and was the first woman to serve on their race committee. She was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church from 1957 until the diocese closed it several years ago.

She was the wife of the late Tom H. Jay; and sister to the late Virginia Williams, of Rumford. She is survived by two daughters: Ingrid Nichols of Beaverton, Oregon and Susan Jay of Warwick, with whom she made her home. Also survived by three grandsons: Ret. Col. Mark Parrish of West Linn, Oregon, Jay Cinq-Mars of Durham, North Carolina and Tim Cinq-Mars of Warwick. She also leaves three great grandsons: Maxwell, Tucker and Gage Parrish all of West Linn, Oregon.

A memorial will be held at East Greenwich Yacht Club, 10 Water Street, East Greenwich, RI Saturday, February 22, at 2 pm.
