Dr. Raymond B. Maxim

Dr. Raymond B. Maxim, passed away March 12, 2013. Dr. Maxim was a devoted husband, loving father and respected physician. He is survived by his wife Deborah (Hardy) Maxim, children Colin M. and Victoria J Maxim.

He was the son of Ronald Maxim of Middleboro, now of Barrow, Florida and the late Carol (Hopkins) Allen of Middleboro. He was the brother of Walter Maxim, Donna MacDonald, Holly Madonna, Richard Allen and Susan Chicoine. Ray was a 1977 graduate of Middleboro High School; he then attended Bridgewater State College and then the University of Rhode Island. He was always involved in sports in school, and continued after high school as part of the Cobra's football team. Ray was a medic in the Army Reserve in his early career and an EMT in the Emergency Room at Roger Williams Hospital. He also helped establish the ambulance program at URI in the early 1980's. He was a graduate of Ross University School of Medicine, and completed his medical residency at Roger Williams Medical Center in Providence, RI. He was a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, and Director of the Rhode Island Stale Medicaid Program, while also a devoted teacher and clinical instructor of medical students and residents of the Boston University Training Program affiliated with the Roger Williams Medical Center. Ray was a devoted husband and father and a steadfast supportive friend. He was a loyal Patriots fan, and enjoyed attending games at Gillette Stadium; and we would all know, he would not be happy about Wes Welker becoming a Denver Bronco. He was also a mountain bike enthusiast, and delighted in after-work rides, often returning home mud spattered and grinning. He was a duffer when it came to golf, but enjoyed the fellowship of the game, just the same. He enjoyed boating and fishing, although his busy life made it hard to fit it all in. He was able to attend his 35th high school reunion last year, and never stopped talking about how wonderful it was to see everyone. He very much enjoyed reestablishing old friendships with his classmates. This is but a brief summary of a remarkable man. It is impossible to put everything in writing about one's life, but we all know that Ray still had so much to give as a person, husband, father, son, brother, and doctor. We will never know why our lives are sometimes cut short. There are just not enough words to express all that is felt about this special person we all knew. We need to be comforted in knowing that he is now enjoying everlasting life, awaiting the arrival of those he loved and cared for.
