Inspiration comes in many forms. This past Saturday, inspiration came in the form of Alan Chamberlin, of Warwick. Diagnosed with CIDP, or Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy, a disease closely related to MS, Chamberlin went to T.F. Green Airport to participate in the 2013 MS Jet Pull.

But he didn’t come to watch. Or volunteer. Chamberlin was there to pull. He traded his cane for a thick rope attached to a giant FedEx Boeing 757 cargo plane and pulled his heart out.

To make the day even more special, it just happened to be Chamberlin’s 75th birthday.

He made his pull as part of Team FedEx.

A Warwick resident for the past 35 years, Chamberlin was a police officer in Winsted, Conn. for several years, as well as an honorary member of the fire department there. He also enjoyed a lengthy career in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning business.

When asked what he does when he’s not pulling giant planes around the tarmac, he said, “I like to fish and golf. And sing.”

Chamberlin is also part of the Pawtuxet Valley Community Chorus, which often performs at the West Warwick High School.
