ECC culminates first year with K-Celebration

There was so much excitement about Johnston’s first-ever all-day kindergarten celebration, it had to be held inside the Edward L. DiSimone Gymnasium on Cherry Hill.

“We were all thrilled with the attendance of the K-Celebration,” Julie-anne Zarrella, principal at Johnston’s Early Childhood Center (ECC). “We had parents, guardians … lots and lots of our great ECC community came out for this year-end event.”

The theme for the event, Zarrella noted, was Dr. Seuss’s “All the Places You’ll Go.”

“We even had a mistress of ceremony, kindergartner Kayleigh James Slader, who wore a beautiful yellow dress and did an absolutely great job,” she added.

The K-Celebration was the culmination of the first full academic year of all-day kindergarten in Johnston.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Bernard DiLullo delivered the event’s keynote address and spoke to the ECC community. He praised each and every staff member – as well as Zarrella – for “making our first year of all-day kindergarten in Johnston an overwhelming success.”

The event included students reading excerpts from “All the Places You’ll Go,” and each reading was followed with candid video clips of various ECC students remarking on their first school year.

In keeping with what has become a tradition with each and every ECC event, Zarrella created and impressive 16-minute iMovie presentation highlighting the school year.

Once the K-Celebration was complete, to even further commemorate the ECC students’ first official year of school, Zarrella showed parents, guardians, and guests the video link so they could have a keepsake of their children’s kindergarten experience.

“The video was well-received,” Zarrella said. “It gave our parents and guards a look back of the year’s events – both planned and candid moments of our kindergarten’s learning expedience.”
