Eagle badge on the line

Jay Chehy was looking for a way to help the community, and his tennis coach at Pilgrim High knew just what he could do. On Saturday, Jay and other members of Troop 49 Lakewood sponsored by Lakewood Baptist Church painted the tennis court lines as the means for Jay to complete a community service project to advance to Eagle Scout. The work was tedious, requiring the careful taping of the lines followed by the painting, but from the start the boys were given plenty of encouragement. Jay’s mom, Kathy, showed up with a platter of fresh baked calzones just as work began, her way of ensuring everyone stayed focused on task. Here, Jay paints as fellow scout Matt Parente prepares to assist. Parente recently completed his Eagle project, as did fellow troop members Joseph Borges, Connor Devine and Russell Lambert. All five young men started scouting together as cubs under the leadership of Ron Bailey. (Warwick Beacon photos)
