Edmund V. Nolan, Sr., Electrician Mate Chief Petty Officer, US Navy (Ret) affectionately known as “Chief”, 95, died Tuesday, May 24, 2016. He was the husband of the late Mildred L. (Sheehan) Nolan.

Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Bernard J. and Estelle C. (Larkin) Nolan and has been a resident of Warwick since 1983. Chief Nolan served in the United States Navy for 30 years and was a veteran of World War II, Korean War, the Cuban Crisis and Vietnam. During his military career he received the American Campaign Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with 6 stars, the European African Mid Eastern Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 stars, Philippine Republic Presidential Unit Citation Medal, WWII Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal with 5 stars. After retiring he had worked as a UER and UTC bus driver for 9 years and had worked at Benny’s Home and Auto Store in Coventry for 27 years. He was a post officer and vice president of the Fleet Reserve, Branch 42. He also served as the head usher at St. Clement Church in Warwick.

He was the beloved father of Linda L. Desilets and Kathleen M. Palmer and the late Edmund V. Nolan, Jr. He is also survived by four grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He was the brother of Raymond Nolan and Leo Nolan.

His funeral will be held Saturday, May 28, at 8:30 am from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Clement Church, Long Street. Burial with military honors in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Friday 4-7 p.m.
