Edward L. Walsh, Jr., 48, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, August 13, 2014. Ed was a loving husband to Karen Emma and a dedicated and loving father to his sons: Cameron, Tyler and Edward III. He is the son of Barbara Sample and the late Edward L. Walsh, Sr. He was also the stepson of Charles S. Sample. He is the grandson of Raymond Walsh and the late Katherine Walsh, and the late Raymond and Louise Bessette. He is the son-in-law of Anthony and Lois Emma and the grandson of Edna Emma.

He is survived by his brothers Larry Sample and his wife, Jennifer Charleson, and Charles W. Sample, his sisters Christine Iadevaia and her husband, Michael, Mary-Ellen Jenkins and her husband, Raleigh. He leaves behind his brother-in-laws, Anthony L. Emma, Jr. and his wife, Lisa, and David A. Emma and his wife, Jacqueline; sister-in law, Carolyn Emma Miller. He was the beloved uncle to Crystal Jenkins, Lauren Jenkins, Alex Jenkins, Taylor Jenkins, Amanda Iadevaia, Courtney Iadevaia, Alyssa Emma, Colby Emma, Kaitlyn Miller, Brian Miller Jr., Taylor Miller, Alexandra Emma, Victoria Emma; and great-niece Analeiah Emma Jesus. He is also survived by his many aunts and uncles as well as numerous cousins.

Ed will always be remembered as an amazing husband, father, son, brother, teacher, coach, and friend. He was a history teacher/guidance counselor at Warwick Veterans Memorial High School for the past 25 years. Edward graduated from Bishop Hendricken High School in 1984 and continued his education at Providence College where he received his B.A. in History and his M.A. in Guidance.

Ed was a tremendous baseball and hockey player throughout his career at Bishop Hendricken and Providence College. While at Bishop Hendricken he was a 1st Team All State 1st Baseman Selection in his senior year. A 1988 graduate of Providence College, Ed was a standout baseball and hockey player who remains the home run leader at PC with 36 home runs and ranks first all-time with a career batting average of .386, the highest batting average on record at PC. Ed was an All New England first baseman. He was inducted into the Providence College Hall of Fame in 2009 in hockey and baseball. Ed was drafted by the White Sox and the New Jersey Devils where he continued his athletic career professionally in both sports.

His passion for sports extended beyond his childhood love of playing sports and his professional athletic career. Ed volunteered much of his personal time over the years giving back to the community as a coach of many hockey, baseball and golf teams. He was a high school coach at Warwick Vets, Tollgate High School and Bishop Hendricken High School. In his first year as head coach of the Tollgate baseball team, they won the RIIL Baseball State Championship in 1991. For the past seven years, Ed was the assistant hockey coach of the LaSalle Academy Hockey Team. He was the Head Golf Coach at Warwick Vets and was also a proud coach in Cranston Western Little League.

His Funeral was held on Monday, August 18, 2014.
