Edward Silberman, 90, of Warwick, died on February 15, 2017. His strength and determination to stay present and active with his family during his brief illness never waveredHe leaves his beloved wife of over 68 years, Marion B. (MacLean) Silberman.

He was the son of the late Harry and Ethel M. (Ford) Silberman and was also predeceased by his son-in-law John G. Earle. Ed worked for many years in cemetery management; first at Pawtuxet Memorial Park and later retiring from Lincoln Park Cemetery, both in Warwick. He was a World War II Veteran, having served in the US Navy as a radioman aboard ship in Japan. Ed was actively involved in leadership roles at Washington Park United Methodist Church and the Board of the Methodist Retirement Home. He enjoyed volunteering at fundraisers and events and participating in Great Decisions discussions focusing on world issues.

Most of all, Ed was a loving husband and father who enjoyed playing with his family. He was the first one out of the house when the snow fell: his children often awoke to snowmen and igloos already made and the skates ready to glide around the homemade rink in the back yard. He rode the waves at the beach every Sunday of the summer for years and enjoyed clamming from the family boat – The 4 J’s and ME. He was a naturally gifted golfer from an early age. Ed loved family gatherings, cookouts, and socializing and traveling with a wonderful group of friends for many years. He loved the family dogs, his gardens, reading and eating m & m’s. Words often used to describe Ed are compassionate, fair, even tempered and happy. He was seen as a “gentle giant” whose love and respect for life and all people made him a role model for all who knew him. His passing has a profound effect on a family that treasured his presence.

Besides his wife, he also leaves his children: Judith S. Earle, John E. Silberman (wife, Deborah), and James A. Silberman, all of Warwick. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Elizabeth S. Phillips (husband, Scott), Susan B. Earle, John E. Silberman, Jr., Breana G. Silberman and Alanna S. Botts (husband, Jonathan). He leaves a sister, Shirley Caywood of Niantic, CT and many dear siblings-in-law, nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Ed will be held on Tuesday, February 21 at Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Warwick. The family will receive visitors between 9 and 11 a.m. A brief service will follow. Burial will be at Pawtuxet Memorial Park, Harrison Avenue in Warwick immediately following the service. Friends and relatives are welcome.
