Edward T. Gofton

Edward T. Gofton, 87 of Warwick, died December 7, 2013 at home. He was the loving husband of Beverly Ann (Gargani) Gofton, for over 55 years.

Mr. Gofton was born in East Providence, a son of the late Frederick C. and Elizabeth (Worthington) Gofton. He was a banker at the former Union National Trust, Industrial National Bank, and the Fleet Bank, for many years before retiring, 20 years ago. Edward was a United States Navy Veteran, serving during World War II. He was a member of the United States Navy Armed Guard Veterans Association.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Jeffrey D. Gofton, of Coventry, two daughters: Ann Diver of Princeton, New Jersey, Lisa E. Widmann, of Warwick; and his brother Albert F. Gofton, of Warwick. He was the grandfather of eight. Mr. Gofton was the brother of the late Francis C. Gofton.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in The Urquhart – Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Ave., Warwick, burial with Military Honors will follow at the Rhode Island Veterans’ Cemetery, Exeter. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 3-7 p.m.
