Edward W. Cerio Sr., 81, of Budlong Farm Road, died peacefully October 20, 2011 at home. He was the beloved husband of Carolyn R. (Youngs) Cerio for 59 years.
He was a son of the late Thomas D. and Mary R. (DeRosa) Cerio Sr. Mr. Cerio was an arborist and real estate developer and owner and operator of E.W. Cerio Tree Service for 50 years and E.W. Cerio Bldg. Co. for 30 years. He served as the tree warden for the city of Warwick for 45 years and was a member and past president of the RI Arborist Association.
He was a Coast Guard Korean War veteran serving on the USCGC Eastwind. He also sponsored many Apponaug baseball and hockey teams.
He was the loving father of Carol L. Fritz, Diane R. O’Brien and Edward W. Cerio Jr.; devoted grandfather of Laura, Amanda and Heather; great-grandfather of Luke; and brother of John Cerio, Agnes Geer, Thomas Cerio Jr., Josephine Zarrella, Joseph Cerio, Maryann Millette and Robert Cerio.
His funeral with military honors will be held Oct. 26 at 9 a.m. from Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Rita Church, Oakland Beach Ave. Burial will be in Swan Point Cemetery, Blackstone Blvd., Providence.
