Elizabeth “Tessie” (Martin) Joyce, 82, passed away, Thursday, Jan 5, 2017. She was the wife of the late Thomas F. Joyce.
Born in County Monaghan, Ireland, she was a daughter of the late Edward J. and Catherine (Daly) Martin. Mrs. Joyce was a medical assistant for the late Dr. Francis Sargent. Active in the Democratic Party, she was a member of its State Committee, Warwick and RI Womens’ Clubs and a committee woman for the 35th Representative District. She was an endorsed candidate for State Representative for the 35th district and was the first woman appointed to the 911 Authority. She was also a member of the RI Ceilidhe Club.
She was the mother of Thomas F. Joyce, Jr. (Ruchi), Katherine M. Greenwell (B/C Joseph, WFD Ret.), and the late John J. Joyce, III; grandmother of Shannon, Caleigh, John Joseph, Victoria, Aaron, Liam, Jaya, and Caeden; great-grandmother of Roisin; sister of the late Patrick J., Edward J., John J., Peter E., Canice “Kenny,” and Sylvester Martin. She also leaves 14 nieces and nephews in Ireland and England.
Her funeral and visitation will be held Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 7:30 a.m. from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 8:30 a.m. in St. Kevin Church, Sandy Lane. Burial will be in Rhode Island Veterans’ Cemetery, Exeter.
