Elks host night of classic cars, camaraderie

Tri-City Elks Lodge No. 14 last week held its first-ever weekly classic car show, with four-dozen vintage vehicles parked on the grass at Rossi Park.

“This is what we do best,” said Mark Eaton, Tri-City’s former Exalted Ruler. “It’s all about Elks giving back to the community.”

The gathering was free of charge, with a variety of refreshments available for purchase. Tri-City’s outdoor Tiki Bar, which was donated to Lodge 14 several years ago by Dr. Patrick T. Conley, is where beverages were served up.

“We’ve never seen anything quite like this,” said Gordon Bolton, who along with his wife Karen received the unofficial award at last Thursday night’s show for having traveled the farthest from their Elks Lodge in Indio, California. “It’s amazing. All people have to do is show up and enjoy the night. And let me say that Tiki Bar is quite the thing.”

Attendees listened to oldies being played by DJ Bob Caramante.

“I really love this,” said Warwick’s Richard Plante, whose cream-colored 1955 Kaiser Manhattan drew rave reviews. “And it doesn’t cost a nickel.”

“It’s all about Elks caring and sharing,” Eaton said while chatting with friends at the Tiki Bar. “It’s the Tri-City Lodge trying to make a difference in our community.”
