Elsie C. (Sousa) Caianiello, age 91, of Warwick, died on January 3, 2014 at Scalabrini Villa in North Kingstown. She was the wife of the late Joseph A. Caianiello.
Born in Warwick, she was a daughter of the late Joseph J. and Mary D. (Gonsalves) Sousa. She was a life-long Warwick resident. Mrs. Caianiello was employed at Victoria Creation in Warwick for 25 years before retiring 15 years ago. During World War II, she worked at Thurston Manufacturing in Providence. She was a founding and long-time member of St. Kevin Church in Warwick, and a former member of its women’s club.
She was the mother of Shirley A. Hainse of North Kingstown, Mary Jane Izzo of Coventry, Joseph P. Caianiello of Alexandria, Virginia, Doreen M. Cole of Greene, and Cynthia J. Muscente of Cooper City, Florida. She was the sister of the late Mary Petrangelo, Stella Petrarca, and Joseph P. Sousa. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 7, at 9:45 a.m. from the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church, 84 Exeter Road, Exeter. Relatives and friends are invited, and may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, West Warwick.
