The Empire Revue, Providence’s Funniest Variety Show, will ring in 2016 by presenting their third annual New Year’s Eve show and dance party featuring live music from the Superchief Trio at AS220’s Main Stage, calling it “Revue Year’s Eve.”
The Empire Revue will present their monthly variety show, hosted by entertainer Keith Munslow and featuring music, stand-up comedy, burlesque, and special guest acts of all kinds, as well as sketch comedy by the Sparkling Beatniks (Sam Bell, Eric Fulford, Jake Goldman, Nicky Mariani, Dave Rabinow, Tom Rajt, Kelly Seigh, Alan Sousa, Kate Teichman and Stuart Wilson). This year’s theme is “The Fresh Start Show.”
Then the Superchief Trio will take over, featuring their unique combination of two-fisted piano, red hot trombone, blazing guitar, rock solid bass, powerful vocals and frenzied percussion antics. Their repertoire of original tunes in the style of New Orleans R&B, jump blues and boogie-woogie will take party-goers into the New Year.
The show itself kicks off at 9 p.m. and will continue into the new year, including a midnight countdown. Adjacent to the show, The Bar at AS220 and restaurant Foo(d) will be open all evening.
Munslow developed the Empire Revue in an effort to bring a collaborative and consistently high quality variety show into the AS220 Performance Space. He selects guest acts to create a widely varying array of local performers that will complement the sketches created by the Sparkling Beatniks every month, each one centering around different themes.
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online at freshstartshow.brownpapertickets.com, with a limited number available on a walk-up basis on the day of the show. AS220 is located at 115 Empire Street, Providence. Audience members are encouraged to arrive early as seating fills up quickly and is first-come, first-seated.
