Ex-Pat D'Ambruoso finding the back of the net

Posted

Former Pilgrim standout Talia D’Ambruoso has found her scoring touch of late, scoring three crucial goals for UMass-Dartmouth in recent action that has seen the Corsairs sail toward the .500 mark.

The sophomore midfielder opened her account for the 2014 season with a pair of tallies in a 3-1 come-from-behind victory over Bridgewater State on Oct. 1.

D’Ambruoso canceled out the Bears’ opening marker just past the half-hour mark with a shot from distance that looped over the Bridgewater State goalkeeper. She then put UMass-Dartmouth ahead for good in the 43rd minute, clipping the inside of the post after receiving a pass from Lily Higgins.

A week to the day later, D’Ambruoso scored the only goal of the Corsairs’ match against Nichols, etching her name onto the score sheet midway through the opening 45 minutes.

D’Ambruoso’s goal-scoring exploits were instrumental in UMass-Dartmouth’s recent three-match winning streak, which came to a halt on Saturday courtesy of a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Keene State.

The 6-6 Corsairs return to the pitch this Wednesday as they make the journey south of the border to take on Roger Williams in a non-league contest before returning to Little East play versus Plymouth State on Saturday afternoon.

Salois picks off two

Warwick Vets alum Nick Salois recorded a pair of interceptions in Bridgewater State’s contest against Western Connecticut on October 4, but the turnovers failed to prevent the Bears from falling to the Colonials 34-10.

Both of Salois’s picks came while the Western Connecticut offense was operating deep inside enemy territory, providing a bright spot on a day in which the Bridgewater State defense surrendered 21 first downs and 463 yards of total offense.

In addition to the picks, Salois contributed a game-high 13 tackles for the Bears, which, along with five more stops in last Saturday’s 37-10 setback at the hands of UMass-Dartmouth, now give the former Hurricane a team-leading 46 for the season.
