Ex-Providence Journal writers honored at the Met

An event called “Honoring Our Journalists” will be held at the Met Café in Pawtucket Oct. 26 starting at 7 p.m. Music will be provided by The Gnomes and Mark Cutler and the Men of Great Courage. People are encouraged to bring a “potluck dish,” and there is a suggested donation of $10.

The money will go towards a new Vietnam Memorial in Providence, the brainchild of Vietnam vet and Agent Orange survivor Wayne Smith, who currently works with veterans in Washington, D.C. Wayne’s idea will encompass not just veterans but all those who remember the Vietnam era, including anti-war protesters. He sees it as inspirational and educational in nature, something that will underscore the idea that wars are really bad ways to resolve conflicts, making it unique among war memorials. Wayne will be on hand at the Met to explain the monument. All are welcome.
