Hendricken 6, TG 2
The series starts off relatively even, with Toll Gate winning the first game and Hendricken winning the second. But the Hawks make a statement for most of the decade, winning five straight after the opening loss, including four by shutout. Hendricken wins 21-0 in 1973, 27-0 in ‘75, 22-0 in ‘77 and 7-0 in ‘79. Toll Gate records a shutout in the decade as well, blanking Hendricken by a 25-0 score in 1978.
Hendricken 6, TG 4
Toll Gate’s best decade in series history, the Titans halt a seven-game Hendricken winning with wins in the final four games of the decade. The Hawks win from 1980-85, and also win in 1979, but five of those wins are by one score. The Titans exact some revenge with a 25-13 win in 1986, a 28-0 win in ‘87, a 21-20 win in ‘88 and a 16-8 win in ‘89. At this point, Toll Gate trails only 12-6 in the all-time series.
Hendricken 8, TG 2
The Titans continue their winning streak by taking the first two games of the decade — giving them six wins in a row — but the Hawks finally get back on track in 1992 and never look back. Beginning with a 7-6 victory, Hendricken starts its streak of 21 consecutive victories, as it doesn’t lose another game in the series through 2012 after breaking Toll Gate’s winning streak.
Hendricken 10, TG 0
Hendricken flexes its muscles, sweeping the decade with 10 straight wins. Many are lopsided, but the Hawks also hang on for close wins in 2003 (9-6), 2005 (33-25) and 2008 (21-18). Hendricken’s defense holds Toll Gate to scores of eight or fewer points in eight of the games, with the exceptions being the 2005 and 2008 games. The Hawks finish out the decade with a resounding 26-6 win in 2009.
Hendricken 3, TG 0
Through three games, Hendricken puts forth perhaps its best decade, as it holds the Titans scoreless for all three games. First, Hendricken wins 19-0 in 2010, then comes back with a 31-0 win in 2011. In 2012, the Hawks’ defense keeps the pressure on in a 33-0 victory, giving Hendricken a combined 83-0 margin of victory in the three games. Hendricken also wins three consecutive Division I Super Bowls in the decade.
