(Immoral, predictable sex comedy)
We're no prudes, but this immoral, predictable sex comedy plays like a soft porn movie. You can also see where it is going from the very beginning.
Not that Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis don't make an attractive couple. It is just that watching them have naked sex goes on so long that you'll actually be bored.
The concept of Friends With Benefits was explained to us by our college-age grandchildren, and it means what it says. If you are good friends, it is OK to have sex with no emotion or commitment. Of course, you know what is going to happen, and it does.
Timberlake plays Dylan, a hotshot LA designer who is headhunted by Kunis's Jamie for a job with GQ in Manhattan. They develop a friendship and then decide to treat frequent romps under the covers just like a tennis match. You play, have fun, and then get on with your separate lives.
Complications set in as both Dylan and Jamie bring a lot of baggage, mostly caused by their parents, to the relationship. Fear of commitment and lousy self-images get in the way. They break up. Do they finally get together? What do you think?
The only shining light in the movie is Rhode Islander Richard Jenkins who plays Dylan's father, who is drifting in and out of Alzheimer's. Woody Harrelson plays a gay sports writer in a throw-away role.
Patricia Clarkson is pretty good as Jamie's mother.
The predictable ending is as corny as it gets.
Rated a gigantic R, with lots of sex, nudity, profanity and bathroom humor.
