(Disney cartoon destined to be a classic)

A great story that appeals to adults and children. Fabulous drawings. Lovely songs. Important messages. Colorful characters. Heroes, heroines and bad guys. Humor, adventure and a love story. Put them all together and you have a classic Disney cartoon feature for the entire family.

Idina Menzel is the voice of Elsa, a character loosely based on Hans Christian Anderson’s “The Snow Queen.” She discovers that she has magical powers and can create ice and snow with a flick of the wrist. She causes an accident with her little sister, Anna (voice of Kristen Bell) and becomes fearful of her powers, to the point of locking herself in her room and cutting off any relationship with her sister.

Elsa flees the kingdom and her sister sets out to find her, aided along the way by Kristoff and his reindeer and an adorable snowman named Olaf. Olaf comes apart in three sections and occasionally loses his “butt,” much to the delight of the children in the audience.

We eventually learn that the handsome, suave Prince Hans, who sweeps Anna off her feet, has ulterior motives. Of course, Kristoff (who has a secret crush on Anna), the moose and the snowman, come to the rescue for a big “happily ever after” conclusion. Take the kids to “Frozen” and enjoy the magic of Disney. You don’t have to see it in 3D to enjoy it. We sat in a sold-out matinee performance filled with families. The kids were noisy during the preview. You couldn’t hear a pin drop during the hour and three-quarter movie. A real treat for the parents is a short Mickey Mouse film that combines the old black and white Steamboat Mickey with a modern version of the characters. Rated PG, with nothing to worry about.
