Fernel M. Pinocci

inspiration to many

Fernel M. Pinocci, 100, passed peacefully December 11, 2011 at Life Care Center of Melbourne, Fla.
Born in Springfield, Mass. on May 2, 1911, she was a daughter of the late Joseph W. and Bessie Grissim Koger. She married Joseph A. Pinocci Sr. in 1937; they were together for 48 years until his death in 1984. Fern and Joe raised their three children, Joseph Jr., Richard and Fernel “Dolly” in North Smithfield. She enjoyed working in the public and loved her years in sales at Bay State Fur.

For over 60 years, she was an active member of the Buttonwoods Campers Association, Warwick. In 1977 Fern and Joe became “snow birds,” spending winters in Melbourne and summers in Buttonwoods. She was a 33-year member of Trailer Haven Shuffleboard Club. Fern lived life to the fullest and loved to entertain.

At 98 years old, Florida Today featured her in a shuffleboard article. She performed for several organizations as “George Burns.” In 1995 Cheryl Wheeler wrote “Mrs. Pinocci’s Guitar,” a song inspired by a night spent singing and playing her guitar.

Fern was an inspiration to many, especially her family, Joseph Pinocci and Jennifer Roberts, Richard and Susan Pinocci, Dolly and Edwin Sullivan. Her jokes, positive attitude and strong faith will be missed by her grandchildren, Joseph Pinocci III, Kimberly Tarbox, Kristin Kohn, Kathryn Buehler, Scott Pinocci and Katie King, and her great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Samantha and Jaime Tarbox, Eddie and William Buehler, Chloe and Lily Pinocci, Audriana Pinocci and Collin and Camden King will miss their Grandma HaHa's love of life.

Private burial was held in St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Greenwich, with a celebration of her life at a later date. Special thanks to Dr. Naveen Kumar, Holy Trinity Episcopal Church and the staff at Life Care Center. Their care enabled her to enjoy and reach her goal of being 100 years old.

Arrangements are by Fountainhead Funeral Home in Palm Bay, Fla.
