The Ferri Middle School baseball team closed out the regular season with a dramatic 3-2 win over Gallagher Middle School of Smithfield to clinch the North Central Division title on Monday at Woodlake Park in Johnston. The Jaguars, coached by Brian Iafrate, led 2-1, thanks to two RBI singles by Josh Tonucci, but Gallagher capitalized on a couple of Ferri miscues and tied the score in the top of the seventh. However, Ferri’s Matt Fortier delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom half of the frame, smacking a two-out, bases-loaded line drive single to right center. Right-hander Anthony Scivola tossed a one-hitter and struck out 10 for the Jaguars, who finish the regular season with a 9-3 record and await their first playoff opponent next week.
