Fire broke out in one of the third floor units of the West Gate Condos on Bald Hill Road at about 11 Wednesday morning. The blaze quickly spread throughout the building, sending up a column of black smoke easily visible from across the city and as far away as Aquidneck Island. According to city land records, the complex is comprised of three buildings with a total of 111 units. The first of the buildings was built in 1976. These photos were taken by the Beacon about noon. No reports on injuries or how the fire started were available at that time. More complete details will be published in Thursday's Beacon.
