The Mayor’s Cup charity hockey game was a success both on and off the ice. The game renewed a long-dormant rivalry between the Warwick Fire Department and the Warwick Police Department and drew a crowd of almost 1,000 to Thayer Arena on Saturday night. The fans were treated to an up-and-down game that the fire department squad won in overtime 6-5. Matt Anthony scored the game-winning goal. The event raised nearly $7,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, significantly more than the organizers’ goals of $2,500.
Both sides are excited to bring the game back again next year.
