For the first time, Warwick Fire Safety Day was held at Fire Station 8 near Ann & Hope rather than Station One in Apponaug, as customary. A few were confused by the change in venues, but that didn’t dissuade young fire department devotees who got to do cool things like sit behind the wheel of a ladder truck or climb on their hands and knees through a smoke-filled trailer. Fire Chief Edmund Armstrong was pleased by the turnout and the events lining up over the next several months. He said the fire-training tower to be erected at Station 8 should be up shortly; that the department will soon have a new Ladder 3, which will replace one acquired in 1994; and in November the new Potowomut station should be ready to open.
