Firefighters praised for response at Four Seasons

To the Editor:

The Four Seasons apartment fire on Saturday, Sept. 19 was a terrible tragedy and loss for all of the residents who lived in the destroyed building. My brother-in-law and nephew lost everything they owned.

I heard about the fire shortly after it started at 2:30 a.m. that morning and witnessed firsthand the bravery and selflessness of the many firefighters who rushed in to put out the raging fires. Battalion Chief Thomas Maymon deserves special praise for providing strong leadership and guidance to his crew and tenants who needed help.

I was overwhelmed by the first responders’ sense of urgency and dedication to all of the displaced residents. Despite the criticism that is sometimes leveled against firefighters for financial reasons, at the end of the day they are the first to arrive in life-or-death situations. Thank you to all of our firefighters for the amazing work you do!

    Dear Elaine,

You're absolutely right! What our firefighters did in the black of night (at 2:30 in the A.M.) was an action that I wouldn't have the courage to do even if it was in broad daylight. Your description that you witnessed "the bravery and selflessness of the many firefighters who rushed in to put out the raging fires." is frightening to me just to read, and those brave people live with that life-and-death issue on a daily basis.

I know my limits. I couldn't do it. It needs to be respected, especially when we read about the criticisms. I have met with several of the leaders of the Warwick Fire Department and I'm learning that there is a big difference between the "politics" and the "people". It's my goal to bridge that gap. Maybe your article helps. I think it does.

Thanks for bringing it to the attention of everyone.

    Keep safe
