Vets senior Hannah McGuirl became the first recipient of a Senator Michael McCaffrey scholarship last week at the school. McGuirl, who will be attending Suffolk University to study interior design, was selected for the honor based on her involvements and leadership at the school. Among other activities, she is a member of the girls’ ice hockey team and the school yearbook committee. She is the daughter of Patrick and Patti McGuirl. McCaffrey said he initiated $500 scholarships for a student at Vets and one at Pilgrim, schools that are within his district, as a means of encouraging students to pursue higher education and to help them with the cost of college. McGuirl is pictured here with McCaffrey on the left and Vets Principal Gerald Habershaw. McCaffrey will award a Pilgrim scholarship this week.
