An estimated 100,000 people attended the 8th annual Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation Flames of Hope this past weekend in downtown Providence.
The celebration began with the 2014 Calendar Unveiling on Friday evening, followed by Celebration Village and a wide variety of tents displaying everything from pink clothing to healing arts therapy. Headlining the evening’s entertainment was Changes in L’atitude and Beatlemania on the main stage.
Perhaps the most heartwarming events took place on Saturday at the Illuminations of Life and Celebration Village, which included a performance by the Rhode Island State Ballet on the steps of the State House and the torch processional to ignite Waterfire with 145 lit torches carried by breast cancer survivors and supporters and family members from the State House to the basin.
Flames of Hope wrapped up on Sunday with the annual Run/Walk Race Series, which featured a Kid’s Fun Run, the Pink Pump Palooza (running in heels open to both men and women and this year saw more men enter the race in high heels), a 5K walk/run and new this year, a 10K sponsored by Rejuverderm MediSpa of Cranston. Approximately 4,200 runners and walkers took part in this year’s Run/Walk Series, which was a record breaker for turnout.

If we put half the effort into finding the cause, we wouldn't need a cure....
