Former Warwick Beacon sports editor and veteran public relations and marketing professional Deb Weinreich has launched Rhode Island Sports Group, LLC. A full-service sports and entertainment agency, RI Sports Group specializes in creating, developing and executing targeted public relations and effective marketing campaigns as well as producing unique sporting events and programs.
Rhode Island Sports Group offers expertise in the areas of media relations, marketing communications, event management and more.
“Today’s sports industry is extremely competitive – on and off the field. Breaking through the clutter is what we are all about,” said Weinreich. “Where we bring value to our clients is our knowledge and many years of experience on both sides of the ball. Our unique experience in business, athletics, strategic communications and marketing allows us to map out a winning strategy to promote athletes, coaches and programs at any level – from amateur to professional.”
Weinreich and Jeff Sweenor, who have previously partnered on several projects, founded the Rhode Island Sports Group.
Weinreich has more than 20 years of public relations, marketing, journalism and event management experience. Her communications background is extensive. Weinreich’s experience in journalism began at the Warwick Beacon as the sole female sports editor in Rhode Island – a title she held for more than a dozen years. She went on to extend her career to public relations at Cox Communications and continued her communications career serving as the vice president of public relations and marketing at Eident Sports before launching Rhode Island Sports Group.
Sweenor designed and constructed the Bomb Squad Baseball Company in Wakefield and recently secured the Ocean State Waves, which will debut in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (www.thefuturesleague.com) in 2013. The Waves will play a 54-game schedule, including 27 home games. The RI Sports Group is exploring the University of Rhode Island as the site of the Waves’ home.
Among those working with the Rhode Island Sports Group include Rob McClanaghan. An elite NBA trainer, McClanaghan works out and trains some of the top professional basketball players in the world, including MVP Derrick Rose and 2012 Olympic Gold Medalists Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, Kevin Love and Candace Parker. The Rhode Island Sports Group will manage McClanaghan’s local speaking engagements and clinics, including his upcoming exclusive pre-season clinic at Bishop Hendricken, Nov. 3-4.
“I have a longstanding relationship with Deb that extends back to when I played basketball at Hendricken and she was a reporter for the Warwick Beacon,” said McClanaghan. “She has extensive energy, enthusiasm and experience. I look forward to continue working with Deb. She and the Rhode Island Sports Group will certainly be an asset as I continue to grow Rob Mac Basketball.”
Group offices are located at 1174 Kingstown Rd., Wakefield.
