Fred R. “Ronnie” Smith, age 78, of Railroad Row, Warwick, died on November 1, 2012 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center in Providence.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Warren E. and Sophie (Hirshfield) Smith, he lived in Warwick for the last 22 years. He was a United States Army veteran. Mr. Smith was employed at Providence Chain Co. for 35 years before retiring. He was later employed part-time at the Shaw’s Market on Bald Hill Road in Warwick, and served as a volunteer at the RI Community Food Bank.
He is survived by a daughter, Lisa M. Blair of Warwick, two sons, David J. Smith of Warwick and Jeffrey M. Smith of Newport; a sister, Muriel McInerney of Providence, a brother, Robert Hirshfield of Cranston; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Fred Ronald Smith, Jr. and Sandra L. Smith; and the brother of the late Warren Smith.
His funeral was held on Monday, November 5, from the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Matthew Church, Elmwood Avenue, Cranston. Burial with military honors was in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
