Frederick S. Conley
director of civil defense training
Frederick S. "Bud" Conley passed away at home January 24, 2012 at the age of 93. He was the husband of the late Beverly A. (York) Conley.
Born in New Bedford, Mass., he was a son of the late Fred and Laura (Holdsworth) Conley. Mr. Conley was the director of civil defense training for the State of Rhode Island. He was a captain in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving with the 397th Infantry, 100th Division.
He was a graduate of URI and an All American at URI in basketball and captain of the baseball team. He is a member of the URI Hall of Fame and the Cranston Hall of Fame and was an avid golfer.
He leaves two sons, David R. Conley and Jay F. Conley and his wife, Cindy. He was the father of the late Stephen Y. Conley, husband of Gwen. He was the grandfather of seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and brother of the late Dana and Dorothy Conley.
A funeral service was held Jan. 28 in Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich. Burial with military honors was in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
