Frederick W. “Bill” Ashton, age 82, of Inverness, Florida died on May 25, 2014 at HPH Hospice in Lecanto, Fla.

Bill was born on July 17th, 1931, in Providence, RI, son of the late Varlow and Nettie Ashton. He served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean conflict. Bill volunteered for the Lakewood Volunteer Fire Department for nine years and the Warwick Fire Department for 24 years, retiring as the Chief Lineman. He was a member of the Warwick Firefighters Association.

He was a Mason with the Harmony Lodge in Warwick, RI for many years. Bill was a Protestant. He retired to Florida in 1990 and had many good years. He moved to the Inverness area in 2010 after 17 years in The Villages, Fla.

Survivors include his wife, Leona (Ellis) Ashton of Inverness, Fla. and three children; Frederick “Bill” Ashton, Jr. of Inverness, Fla., Leo F. Ashton of Fiskeville, RI and Deborah O’Leary (Jace O’Leary) of Inverness, Fla.; eight grandchildren, William “Billy” Ashton of Media, Pennsylvania, Lucas Ashton of Warwick, RI, Carly Doucette, of Fiskeville, RI, Jessica Baker of Warwick, RI, Joshua Ashton , USAF of Anchorage, Alaska, Emily Ashton of Orlando, Fla., Shane O’Leary of Inverness, Fla., Noah O’Leary of Inverness, Fla.; two step-grandchildren; Jace O’Leary of Providence, RI and Patrick O’Leary of Warwick, RI; three great-grandchildren; Adyn Robert Kennedy, William Jude Ashton and Kylie Leona Baker. He was the brother of the late Elizabeth Hollingworth and Evelyn Irons.

Interment will be at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla. on May 30, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Arrangements by Heinz funeral Home & Cremation in Inverness, FL. For online condolences heinzfh.com
