This coming Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Kent County YMCA is offering free, fun-filled activities for the entire family at Healthy Kids Day. The goal of the event is to encourage children and families to learn ways to become healthier through physical activity and healthy eating.
Healthy Kids Day is open to the entire community and features a wide range of activities including obstacles courses, swimming, dance, live music, Zumba, nutritious foods and snacks, and tips on preventing disease and keeping children safe. Other local community organizations will also be present to share information and resources.
“We really want families to come to the Y and see that living a healthy lifestyle can be fun,” Michael Fournier, senior vice president of the YMCA of Greater Providence, said in a statement. “Whether it’s planning nutritious meals together or participating in fitness activities as a family, we want to instill in kids a love of being healthy that will last a lifetime.”
This year, Healthy Kids Day in Rhode Island has been sponsored by WPRI 12/FOX Providence, Hurd AutoMall, the Providence Journal, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island, Citizens Bank, Blackstone Valley Office Systems, and Eastern Bank.
A national event, more than 1,900 YMCAs will participate. In Rhode Island and nearby southeastern Massachusetts and Connecticut, there are 17 branches hosting Healthy Kids Day activities in their communities.
