The Woodlawn Community Development Corporation’s new Woodlawn Avenues to Vocation and Employment (WAVE) program is developing a number of free job training programs, which will start in July. The eight-week job training program to be offered will involve training individuals to work at non-profit agencies throughout Rhode Island.

The training program is now available to Warwick, Cranston and residents throughout Rhode Island.

Those at Woodlawn believe that this initiative will provide a tremendous opportunity for individuals that are serious about working at non-profit agencies. Individuals interested in the program can call the Woodlawn Community Development Corporation at 475-7632 to schedule an interview.

The job training program helps prepare individuals to work at non-profit agencies and topics will include customer relations, office skills, total quality management, basic grant writing, basic bookkeeping, board and committee development, community outreach, marketing, public relations, diversity awareness, ethics and values, fundraising, financial management, program planning, conflict resolution, volunteer management job interview techniques, résumé preparation and other aspects of securing employment.

In addition, training will involve CPR and AED (automated external defibrillator) use, health care provider training, first aid, and an array of certified courses in the health field, and additional certified training courses.

Internship experience at the Woodlawn Community Center will include working with the seniors’ Meals on Wheels lunch site, the R.I. Food Bank Kids program, and the summer youth employment program, all held at the Woodlawn Community Center in Pawtucket. All Rhode Island residents are eligible to apply.
