Last Monday at Westerly High School, the Bishop Hendricken freshman indoor track team finished off its already strong season in style with a state championship.
The freshman Hawks had a total score of 108, good enough to top second-place La Salle’s 92.3 score and East Providence’s 85.
Hendricken got three first-place showings. The team of Brian Shamblen, Craig Conway, Nate Tomasso and Chris Storti won the 4x100 relay, while Domenic Polseno won the high jump and Shane Olson won the javelin.
Conway also took second in the 200 and third in the long jump. Storti added a third in the shot put, Shamblen was sixth in the long jump, Polseno was sixth in the triple jump and Olson was fourth in the hammer.
In the 3000, Dominic Parlato took second, while Tom McMahon finished third. Matt Wilks finished fourth. Avery Ingegneri finished in second in the 800 and third in the 1,500, while Ingegneri teamed up with Joe Swift, Jake Cardello and John Celico to take fourth in the 4x400. Celico also took second in the pole vault.
In the 4x800, Swift, Cardello, Matt Lanni and Chris Couture Del Valle grabbed third place. Eunki Seonwoo finished fifth in the hammer, and Matt Ricci rounded out the scoring with a sixth-place finish in the high jump.
