Warwick City Hall tower restoration work is hard to miss, whether entering Apponaug from Centerville Road or parked in front of the building. With the aid of a federal grant, the project costing more than $750,000 is projected to be completed late this fall. Already visible from between the scaffolding is the new copper dome, which will shine like a “new penny” before turning red and then brown. It will take decades before regaining its green patina. The job includes restoration of the clock face, pointing bricks, replacement of copper urns and the replacement of rotted timbers. Oh yes, the weather vane will also regain all four points of the compass and its gold gilt.
