Fung touts fundraising totals

Cranston Mayor Allan Fung’s gubernatorial campaign is touting its fundraising success.

The Republican’s campaign raised more than $115,000 in the fourth quarter of 2013, according to a recent news release, bringing the year’s total to more than $380,000.

“The broad financial support from all across Rhode Island is a testament to Mayor Fung’s hard work, dedication and leadership in the city of Cranston,” said James Donahue, finance chairman for the Committee for Allan Fung.

According to the campaign, contributions have been received from nearly 1,200 unique donors, with 90 percent coming from Rhode Islanders. Donahue in the statement says those figures demonstrate that Fung’s support “comes directly from hard working Rhode Islanders, not from Wall Street or the candidate’s personal resources.”

Ken Block, who is also seeking the GOP nod for governor, recently said he anticipates needing to raise a total of $1.5 million to $2 million for the primary and general election races, but was focused on reaching out to voters during the campaign’s early stages.

The Block campaign said it will file the needed fundraising reports by this week’s deadline, but declined to comment further regarding its own totals or the Fung campaign’s announcement.
