Warwick native Sean Furney did not hear his name called in the Major League Baseball Draft last week, but he’ll be starting a professional career anyway.
According to his Twitter account, Furney will be signing a free agent contract this week with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The right-handed pitcher won Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Year honors this past season, his senior campaign with the University of Rhode Island. He went 7-4 with a 2.02 ERA and 75 strikeouts.
