Greenwich Bay Sailing Association will hold its biennial “Kids Should Be Sailing Auction” April 28 at the East Greenwich Yacht Club. The event, which starts at 6 p.m., is the primary fundraising activity for GBSA and all proceeds go to scholarships and fleet preservation
A live and silent auction will be held during the event by Sal Corio of SJ Corio Company. Many of the items for auction are boating-related but also include weekend vacations, sports memorabilia, golf outings, sunset cruises, gift baskets, tickets for sporting events and air travel. There will also be featured art from local artists as well as prints from renowned photographer Onne van der Wal.
Proceeds from the auction will support scholarships, financial aid to students and fleet preservation. GBSA’s mission is to introduce children to sailing and help them build confidence and character. Through sailing, young people learn independence, problem solving, self-reliance, and discipline and leadership skills. They gain a sense of respect for themselves and others that will serve them well as sailors and in everything they do throughout their lives.
