Gas prices continue dropping, says AAA survey

Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are down another nine cents from last week and are on the verge of being at or below $3.00 per gallon for the first time since December of 2010, according to AAA Southern New England.

AAAs Nov. 10 survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $3.01 per gallon, down nine cents from last week. Prices locally are 27 cents lower than a month ago. The current price is eight cents more than the national average for regular unleaded of $2.93. A year ago at this time, Rhode Island’s average price was 38 cents higher at $3.39.

Strong oil supplies are outpacing demand, resulting in relief at the pump for drivers both locally and nationwide, said Lloyd P. Albert, AAA Southern New England Senior Vice President of Public and Government Affairs. The busy holiday travel season will be here soon, and falling gas prices will mean a little extra cash in the pockets of motorists.

The range in prices in the latest local AAA survey for unleaded regular is 25 cents, from a low of $2.91 to a high of $3.16. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area.
