Gas prices drop penny, AAA survey finds

Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are down a penny from last week, according to AAA Northeast.

AAA’s March 16th survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.44 per gallon, down one cent from last week. Prices locally are 20 cents higher than a month ago. The current price is two cents more than the national average for regular unleaded of $2.42. A year ago at this time Rhode Island’s average price was $1.16 higher at $3.60.

“There’s good news for motorists this morning as prices at the pump reverse direction.  This welcome decrease reflects a dip in crude oil prices as well as robust supplies here in the U.S,” said Lloyd P. Albert, Senior Vice President of Public and Government Affairs for AAA Northeast.

The range in prices in the latest local AAA survey for unleaded regular is 32 cents, from a low of $2.27 to a high of $2.59. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up- every trip, every time.
